|Jeffrey Bawa, the great architect of Sri Lanka

Bawa was born in Colombo in 1919 into an upper-class family of European descent.
At the age of 19, he went to England to study, majored in English literature, and at one point aspired to become a lawyer, but returned to Sri Lanka in 1946 and embarked on a long world tour that lasted one and a half years.Bawa, who has broadened his knowledge of various worlds, buys land in Bentota and tries to build a “utopia”, but stumbles due to his lack of architectural knowledge.
It wasn’t until I was 38 years old that I went to England again to study architecture and started working as an architect.

Since then, Bawa has worked tirelessly and left behind numerous buildings from private homes to schools, hotels, temples, and parliament buildings until his death at the age of 84.
The architectural style of Bawa was also fascinated by the founder of the famous “Aman Resort” in Japan, and the style that unites “nature, air, and architecture” still influences many architects.

|The charm of Bawa architecture is not limited to hotels! Hidden spots are also recommended

In addition to the large hotels, you can also explore small Bawa buildings such as Lunuganga Gardens and Brief Gardens, which Bawa built as a utopia, and Number 11 Paradise Road Gallery Café in Colombo.
With stylish antique-style interiors and objects with attention to detail, and paintings lined up in the corridors, you can enjoy your trip as if you were visiting a wonderful art gallery.
