Stay at an authentic Ayurvedic resort (Barberyn Beach)

A well-loved resort in Japan, frequented by many returning guests, making it difficult to secure a reservation.

Opened in February 2003, this resort is a sister property of Barberyn in Weligama, located at the southernmost point of Sri Lanka. The architecture and rooms feature a simple yet elegant design, offering guests the choice of a serene garden view or a stunning vista of the Indian Ocean from their balcony. Experience a stay at a trusted, authentic Ayurvedic resort within the Barberyn network!

| Sri Lanka’s most renowned Ayurvedic resort, popular among Japanese visitors.

Its popularity surged after being prominently featured in the 2005 book Green Island Sri Lanka’s Ayurveda (Shobunsha) by freelance writer Yukiyo Iwase. The hallmark of Barberyn is its rigorous dietary therapy, where personalized food advice is provided, similar to that of a registered dietitian. It is said that Barberyn Beach is slightly more relaxed in this regard compared to Barberyn Reef.

However, a key aspect of the resort is its strict focus on Ayurvedic cuisine—guests are only served Ayurvedic meals throughout their stay. Unlike other resorts that offer a variety of international cuisines such as Italian, this is not the case here. Additionally, the resort enforces a no-smoking and no-alcohol policy within its premises, which may pose a challenge for smokers or those who enjoy drinking.

| A time-honored and highly effective approach to health, grounded in the principles of preventive medicine.

Ayurveda is an ancient medical system in Sri Lanka that dates back over 5,000 years to its origins in India. The term is derived from the Sanskrit words “Ayus” (meaning life or longevity) and “Veda” (meaning science or knowledge), together signifying the “science of life.” The core principle of Ayurveda is that illness occurs when the balance of the three vital energies or doshas—”Vata,” “Pitta,” and “Kapha”—is disrupted.

The goal of Ayurveda is to restore balance among these energies to achieve optimal health. In a tranquil environment and a remarkable healing space, you can relieve stress, eliminate toxins, and enhance both your body and mind through this age-old system of preventive medicine.
